Assemblymen Parker Space and Hal Wirths announced today that the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART) New Jersey Transportation Division has endorsed their candidacies in the 24th Legislative District that includes all of Sussex County, 11 towns in Warren County and Mt. Olive in Morris County.
“Assemblymen Space and Wirths were at the forefront of our battle to protect the rights of NJ Transit rail road employees under federal law,” said Ronald Sabol, Director of SMART Transportation Division’s New Jersey State Legislative Board.
“They worked with us to enact the ‘New Jersey Transit Corporation Employee Protection Act’ and our members are truly grateful for their support,” Sabol concluded.
Assemblymen Space and Wirths appreciated SMART’s support.
“Hal and I were proud to work with the leaders of SMART on the issues in the Assembly Labor Committee which affect their membership,” said Space. “Their members are hard working people who deserve nothing but the support of public officials.”
“It was a great victory for their members and for the customers of NJ Transit to see that the employee protection act was enacted,” said Wirths. “Parker and I look forward to continuing our work with SMART to make a New Jersey a better state for working taxpayers.”
The Transportation Division of SMART is the largest rail labor union in the country representing rail and bus members in both the private and public sectors.
